Reflection Questions:

  1. When you think about receiving Jesus’s acts of love, service, and grace, what emotions come to mind? In what ways is it easy for you to receive these things? In what ways is it difficult?

  2. How does God invite you to live in light of His grace that comes from Him alone?

  3. How does communion (tomorrow’s practice) continually remind us of Jesus’s outpouring of love on the cross?

Spiritual Practice: Service

As the author notes, the word “maundy” comes from the latin word mandatum, which means commandment. It is in reference to Jesus’s words at the last supper with His disciples when Jesus gives a new command: “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34).

With this in mind, today’s practice is service, as we consider the way Jesus came to love and serve us, demonstrated also that evening in the washing of the disciples’ feet.

Experiment with praying throughout the day,
“Lord, how can I serve someone that comes along my path today?”
