Reflection Questions:

  1. Coming from the celebration of Easter Sunday, where do you find yourself today on Monday? Do you find yourself troubled or anxious?

  2. How does Jesus show up in the midst of your troubled or doubt-filled minds?

  3. Let’s respond to the author’s question: “What is Jesus’s attitude and posture towards me?”

Spiritual Practice: Breath Prayer

Although Jesus has been raised from the dead, we still continue on in life on this side of eternity with troubles, doubts, concerns, and problems too big for us. In the practice of breath prayer, there is an opportunity to remind ourselves in short prayers throughout the day that God is present and active in our lives. It’s an invitation to trust, in faith, abiding in God throughout the day.

The breath prayer can be any simple one sentence prayer usually performed in conjunction with breathing in and breathing out. For this Monday, this verse in Mark 9:24 came to mind: “I believe; help my unbelief!” It is within a passage where a father seeks Jesus’s help to heal his demon-possessed son and this father wrestles with this tension of faith and doubt as he makes his request to Jesus.

Consider the areas of life where you are at times filled with doubt or uncertainty and pray throughout the day:
Inhale: I believe
Exhale: Help my unbelief.
