Reflection Questions:

  1. Responding to the question that the author poses, what mind are we to have among ourselves?

  2. In what ways did Jesus model this kind of mindset / perspective for us?

  3. What would having this mind look like in your day to day life?

Spiritual Practice: Welcoming Prayer

“Welcoming prayer invites God into the ordinary events and relationships of life with all their busyness, triggers, muscle tension and heart ache.”1 It helps us to bring Jesus into every part of our days and helps us to grow in awareness of His working in our lives. As we remember Jesus’s ironic triumphal entry riding in on a donkey on Palm Sunday, let us also welcome Him into our week and learn from Him.

Steps:

  • Think through your day or week ahead.

  • Consider what stands out - the good, difficult, ordinary and/or special.

  • Invite Jesus into one thing that stands out by praying: “In this [event/relationship/concern/feeling]... welcome, Jesus, welcome.”

  • Ask in prayer, “Jesus, is there anything you want me to pay attention to as I welcome you into this area?”
