Reflection Questions:

  1. When you are hit with the pain and grief of this life, what is your normal response? Is it despair? Is it compartmentalizing it away?

  2. How does God meet you in these responses? Is he showing you another way?

  3. Read 1 Corinthians 15:20-22 and Revelation 21:1-4. What is the hope we hold onto?

Spiritual Practice: Waiting

The practice of waiting invites us to trust in God’s working and timing, acknowledging that there will come a day when God will make all things new. Waiting with God allows us to grow in patiently trusting God’s goodness and timing, letting go of control and allowing ourselves space to be present while holding onto hope in God’s faithfulness.

Some ideas for practicing waiting:

  • Intentionally drive in the slow lane on the freeway or join the longest line at the grocery store.

  • Arrive very early for an event or appointment and spend time waiting for it to begin, resisting the urge to pull out your smartphone.

  • Spend some time reflecting on the things you’re waiting for in life.
