Layne first started in Youth Ministry at Gardena Valley Baptist Church in 1988 at the age of 21. After 20 years as a volunteer Youth Leader, God led Layne to pursue Youth Ministry full-time in 2008. He attended Biola University, Talbot School of Theology, and graduated with an MA in Christian Education in 2012. Layne has served as Middle School Director at GVBC from 2008 to 2014, and Youth Director from 2014 to February 2018. Layne and his wife, Susan, have an adult daughter, Kaci, whom they adopted when she was 13. Layne is an unashamed sci-fi/comics fanboy, and his personal favorites are Star Wars, Batman, Godzilla, and Lord of the Rings. He enjoys going to Disneyland, seeing movies, Anaheim Ducks hockey, running in full and half-marathons, and he has been rocking-out to his favorite band, U2, since the 80’s. But beyond all these things, Layne’s passion is encouraging people to follow Jesus Christ, and empowering them through the Holy Spirit to BE His Good News in the world.
