Reflection Questions:

  1. Where do you find yourself in this season of life? Is it more fasting or more feasting?

  2. What are some of the sober reminders of mortality that confront you now?

  3. What are some of the glimmers of hope in the midst of difficulties?

Spiritual Practice: Prayer of Examen

Originating from St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Prayer of Examen is a practice of reflection, gratitude and discernment in recognizing the presence of God each day. It is an opportunity to take inventory of your day, paying attention to the work of the Holy Spirit in the myriad of moments - positive or difficult - throughout the day.

Steps:

  • Take a moment of silence to enter into prayer

  • Review the day with gratitude. For what moments today am I most grateful?

  • Reflect on an event that stood out today paying attention to your emotions. Joy? Anger? Sadness? Fear?  What is God saying to you in these emotions? Invite Him to simply be with you there.

  • End the time thanking God and praying into whatever may be ahead the next day.
